Ok,,,,no the sprocket does not have to be in a special position,,,,you have to lock down both camshaft with special tool,,,engine on TDC,,,,you have to tighten the chain tensioner and then you can tighten both vanos unit,,,you should be able to hand turn over the engine to TDC and lock down the camshafts again with the tool and you should be fine after that.
